Service Timeline for your VW: When You Need to Book In
It’s time to start prioritising your car if you barely take it in for servicing. Like humans need to take care of their needs while doing their daily activities, cars need the same care. Your VW needs servicing even more because of how intense its work is.
Neglecting to service your car for a long time and at the right time won’t end well for you, so it’s advisable you know your VW service timeline. Understanding your service timeline tells you when to book in, so you know the right time to take your car in.
The service timeline for your VW is:
Every three months or 3,000 to 7,000 kms
There are certain parts of your car that need to be checked every three months. The oil and oil filter need to be changed as frequently as possible. Your oil and oil filter is responsible for the health of your engine. If your oil and filter aren’t changed regularly, your engine will start developing issues, and you’ll find yourself buying gas more frequently.
If you can’t go every three months, the highest you should wait for this type of VW service is 7,000 kms – but it’s best to go within 3,000 to 7,000 kms. The kind of service done during this period is called routine maintenance or interval service.
Every 12 months or 15,000 to 35,000 kms
Every year, you should take your car in for a major VW service. Sometimes, you may even need to have this type of service done multiple times in a year, depending on how you use your car. The kind of service done in this timeline is called full or mid-range service.
Your oil and its filter will be replaced. Your car’s fluids are checked to ensure all components are well lubricated, your brake, tyre pressure and alignment etc., are all inspected. You can come to BPB Autos if you’re unsure when to bring in your car for mid-range servicing. This is the most important service- it saves you a lot of money when done well.
Every two years or 40,000 to 60,000 miles
This is the most thorough type of service done. It covers all your car’s components – both minor and major. Important lubricants and filters are changed and replaced. Engine and battery maintenance are also done to ensure they’re in good condition.
Your car’s coolant is also inspected- if you notice your vehicle has been getting hotter than normal lately, take your vehicle in for servicing.
Inspection of air condition systems, transmission, wheels, radiators etc., are carried out. Most drivers go for this type of service when they can’t remember when they last serviced their car.
